AATC Youth Track: News and Updates for Sunday May 6 [Week #3 of 16]

7 May 2018 by Aramide Pinheiro-Boatswain

All,

Here is some news and updates for Sunday May 6 [Week 3 of 16]

OUTDOOR TRACK STATUS

Construction is scheduled to start on the UM Outdoor track on Tuesday May 15. The fences around the track will be removed, the bleachers will be removed, and the field events runways will also be removed and replaced with grass (including the long-jump pits). The track itself will stay. I was informed by the UM Athletic Department that we may still be able to use the track during the construction, but the club is planning to move to another track just in case, and also because we need another track anyway to continue training for field events. For the next eight (8) days, we will be able to use the hurdles, the long-jump pits, the shot-put pits, and throw our javelins, our turbo-javelins and even our discus’s (under certain conditions). However, high-jump training has already been suspended until we move to another track with a high-jump pit, because UM took their high-jump equipment away last week. Stay tuned for further updates.

PAYMENT DUE DATE

As I mentioned couple weeks ago, participation fees are due Thursday May 17. You can pay with cash or check at track practice (make checks payable to “AATC”), or you can pay online at http://www.aatrackclub.com/youth/signup.php (a transaction fee of $2.95 per kid applies). Please note that if you have two or more kids, there’s a $25 discount for each kid after the first kid. So if you have three (3) kids, you’ll get $50 in total discounts.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Ozone House (a non-profit organization that provides temporary shelter for homeless and runaway youth) is going to be volunteering at the Ann Arbor Marathon, which takes place Sunday, May 20. The marathon organizer is in need of volunteers. The club is going to be away in the Columbus area at a track meet that day, but for high school students who cannot attend the meet, this is a great volunteer opportunity for them, if they need credit for volunteer hours. Heidi Ruud (whose son Matt is a member of our club) is the contact person for Ozone House, and will be organizing the volunteers at the event. The marathon organizer will donate $100 to Ozone House for every volunteer that exceeds 20 volunteers. If anyone is interested in volunteering on behalf of Ozone House, please contact Heidi at hruud1@yahoo.com,.
