AATC Youth Track: REMINDER -- DEADLINE FOR AAU District Championship registration is this coming TUESDAY !!

10 Jun 2018 by Aramide Pinheiro-Boatswain

All,

This is just another reminder that registration for the upcoming “AAU Junior Olympics District Championship” closes Tuesday night (11:59 PM)

I will take care of registering all athletes on our team competing in this meet — as long as they have valid 2018 AAU memberships !!

PARENTS: If you have not renewed your kids’ AAU memberships since last summer (and assigned our new AAU club code WYYYF4 to them), then you need to take care of that ASAP if they are going to compete in this meet — that is your responsibility.

Once that’s been taken care of, I’ll take care of the rest and get your kids registered in their respective events with the correct performance marks. Once again, I attached the instructions on how to get (or renew) your kids’ AAU memberships, and assign them to our club code.

The “AAU Junior Olympics District Championship” takes place this coming Saturday-Sunday, June 16-17 at Detroit Renaissance High School

THE ROAD TO THE NATIONALS

THE DISTRICT ROUND

The road to the “AAU Junior Olympics National Track & Field Championships” starts with this District Championship round.
The top 16 athletes in each event (per age division) will move on to the next round — the “AAU Junior Olympics Regional Championship”.

The meet schedule and other information is here: http://image.a usports.org/dnn/athletics/2018/18AT-DistrictMI.pdf
I also updated the “Team App”, so if you look at the calendar entry (June 16-17) on the app, you’ll now find this same link there as well.

NOTES:

High school athletes competing in the “New Balance National” (NBN) meet this coming weekend are exempt from competing in the District meet, and they will automatically advance to the Regional round. As long as they sign an exemption waiver from the AAU, and provide proof to the AAU that they competed in the NBN.

Athletes who are NOT competing in the NBN, and have a conflict with the District meet, can compete in a District meet in another state. If that state borders Michigan (Indiana or Ohio) they do not need an exemption waiver. If that state does NOT border Michigan (example: Tennessee), then they WILL need to apply for an exemption waiver, too. In both of these cases, athletes competing in a District meet in another state and advance to their Regional meet, must return to that Region if they wish to compete and advance to the Nationals.

The information about the exemption waivers (there are different types of waivers) is here:

THE REGIONAL ROUND

The “AAU Junior Olympics Regional Championship” (sometimes referred to as the “Regional Qualifier”) takes place Thursday-Sunday, June 28 – July 1.

- The Steeple-Chase & Multi-Event competition takes place Thursday-Friday, June 28-29 at University of Detroit Mercy.

- The individual events & relays takes place Saturday-Sunday June 30 – July 1 back at Detroit Renaissance High School.

The top 4 athletes in each of the Multi-events (per age division), the top 6 athletes in each individual event (running and field) (per age division) and the top 6 relay teams (per age division) will move on the “AAU Junior Olympics National Championship”.

The schedule and other information for that meet is here:

If you look at the calendar entries (June 29 – July 1) on the “Team App”, you’ll now find this same link there for this meet as well.

THE NATIONALS

The Nationals takes place Saturday-Saturday, July 28 – August 4 in Des Moines, IA — at Drake Stadium.

- Check in and packet pickup starts Friday, July 27

- The Multi-Events and Race-Walks take place Saturday-Sunday, July 28-29

- The individual Events and Relays take place Monday-Saturday, July 30 – August 4

That meet schedule is here: http://image.aausports.org/sports/JO_Games/entry/2018/2018TrackEntryInfo.pdf

NOTE: The club is not reserving any hotel rooms for anyone, except for the coaches. Every family needs to make their travel arrangements, since each athletes’ travel needs and time-frames will vary per event, per age-division. The coaching staff can provide a list of preferred hotels to those who need them.
